Percy

UPDATE:
With heavy heart we share the news that Percy is no longer with us.
He passed away today due to complication;
with his illnesses and treatment, his little body couldn't handle anymore.
During his last days here on earth he was cared for and loved. He will now be forever in our hearts.
If you haven't read his story yet, please read it below...

Percy is a sweet little Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix.  He seems to be between 5 and 8 yrs. old and he weighs in at about 7 1/2 pounds.  He's small but tough or he wouldn't have survived this long.

 It was a good thing that his owner didn't care enough to fix their fence or to even look for Percy and his best friend Priscilla when they went wandering one day recently. They were both dirty and full of burrs, but worse than that they were wandering where coyotes would have probably gotten them within hours.

 They were taken in by a PAL volunteer and cleaned up.  She told the owner she had them and when she offered to find them a home, he jumped at the chance and gave them up. They were just a bother to him.  Percy is a 'people person' and he was starved for affection.  He would be happy to be held all day long and have someone rub his belly.  To think a dog like this was left in a yard and neglected is heartbreaking.

 When he was taken to the vet, Percy was diagnosed with hookworms, a bad urinary tract infection and heartworms.  Percy has had treatment for all of his problems plus given shots and neutered.   Percy had a bad reaction to the heartworm treatment. He required additional tests and x-rays. He spent almost a week in the hospital.  Then about a week later he had an infection in his lung, a complication from the treatment.  He spent another 4 days in the hospital, requiring additional blood work and x-rays.  He is now on the road to recovery and hopefully will have no more setbacks.

This little guy has a lot of love to give and a lot of life left now that he's gotten his medical treatment and lots of TLC.  Donations to help with his vet bills would be greatly appreciated.  The more help we get from donations, the more “Percy's” PAL can help.  Percy’s vet work is estimated and $500 and possibly more at this stage.

UPDATE: His treatments are approximately $800 at this time.
